Helping Each Other with our words

"The words that we speak have the power to do great good or great harm."

How often have we heard this? I know for me, this statement is all too familiar. Grandparents, mothers, fathers often discipline children and young persons for their manner of speech. Children are considered 'rude' or 'disrespectful' depending on what they have said, the manner in which they responded and to whom they were speaking to.

Being within my current capacities, I reflected intently on this recently. What I gleaned was phenomenal, and it was this: the tongue is a powerful thing!

Imagine by the very words that roll of this 'fleshy organ' we are capable of doing two things:

- good: right, polite, obedient appropriate
-harm: deliberate injury to a person, damage, a bad effect

Sometimes, we find ourselves speaking ill of or to others close to us, and to be on the receiving end of such is not a comforting feeling.

Therefore, at the times when we are stressed, burdened or depressed about a situation, and it becomes easy to yell at those closest to us: Take a few minutes, breathe deeply and place yourself in the shoes of that loved one, than ask "Will I want he/she to speak to me in the same manner?"

The answer to that question will determine whether your next spoken words will do great good or great harm.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be kind to others with my words. And in times when I am not, convict my Spirit that I may remember this simple prayer, and let kind words prevail. Thank you Jesus. Amen!
